We recently discovered the 1967 edition of the Fulton Falcon Yearbook with Belew Drug’s ad and a schematic of The Broadway Shopping Center as it was in 1967.  We thought you might find it as interesting as we did.

Here is the layout of The Broadway Shopping Center in 1967.  Click on layout image to enlarge.

The Easter Bunny at Broadway Shopping Center

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Yesterday we received the following  interesting email from Patti Smith.

“YOU ARE PROBABLY GOING TO THINK I AM CRAZY, BUT, EVER SINCE I WAS A SMALL CHILD, I HAVE WONDERED WHO WAS THE LADY THAT DRESSED UP AS THE BEAUTIFUL EASTER BUNNY AND WALKED THE SIDEWALK OF BROADWAY SHOPPING CENTER GIVING OUT CANDY TO THE CHILDREN? I AM NOW 54 YRS OLD,  FOR 30 YEARS EVERYTIME I SEE THE SHOPPING CENTER I THINK OF THOSE INNOCENT AND EXCITING TIMES- THE ONLY PEOPLE I COULD THINK OF THAT MIGHT REMEMBER THIS OR COULD FIND OUT WHO SHE WAS IS YOU!I WONDER IF SHE IS DEAD OR ALIVE? I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO TELL HER HOW BEAUTIFUL I THOUGHT SHE WAS- WITH HER WHITE FURRY BUNNY SUIT, HER RED LIPS, SOFT VOICE AND LONG BLACK FALSE EYE LASHES, AND BLUSHED CHEEKS! SHE GAVE US PASTEL COLORED CANDY EGGS THAT HAD SOME MARSHMALLOW IN THE MIDDLE.easterb SHE PROBABLY DID NOT GET MUCH RECOGNITION FOR THIS,BUT IF WE COULD FIND OUT WHO SHE WAS, I WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT THE NEWS SENTINEL AND MAYBE WE COULD DO A STORY ABOUT HER AND THE JOY SHE BROUGHT TO SO MANY CHILDREN! AND, EVEN BETTER STILL, IF SHE IS STILL ALIVE, I WOULD LOVE TO MEET HER AND TELL HER WHAT THAT MEANT TO ME PERSONALLY.”

One of our employees has worked here in the Broadway Shopping Center since back in the sixties when she worked for Woolworth’s.  She knew the Easter Bunny lady’s sister and remembers the sister’s last name was Monroe but doesn’t remember any more details.  If you can help Patti write to her at goodnurse120@charter.net or write directly to me, the webmaster@belewdrugs.com

Thanks

Hello Friends and Neighbors

Monday, October 26th, 2009 | Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Welcome to the Belew Drug Blog. For over forty years the phrase Good Neighbor Pharmacy has been more than a slogan.  It has been a way of doing business. It always will be our way of doing business.  Through our new web presence we are simply expanding the size of our neighborhood.belews2

We will have new posts at least weekly so be sure to visit on a regular basis to learn about what is new with your favorite neighborhood pharmacy but to stay informed with community news as well. We invite all of our friends and neighbors to contribute with things they want to share with the community. There are two ways you can share with Belew Blog. Write to me, your friendly web slinger at webmaster@belewdrugs.com, and ask us to post announcements or you may post your own comments. This is and will remain a moderated web site. This means that your comments will not appear until they have be reviewed and approved for posting.

First I would like to tell everyone that once again Belew Drug is moving forward, growing to better serve our customers. If you have visited the store lately you surely noticed the construction in progress. We are currently expanding our compounding lab, building a new fitting room for therapeutic shoes and a new quarters for our immunization services. The construction has require somethings to be moved.  When you visit please excuse the mess and don’t hesitate to ask for help finding things.
